POP WiTCH : Lana Dey Rey, A Discovery Of Witches & A Fashionable Preview Of Spring 2013...

"Once you 'got' Pop, you could never see a sign again the same way again. And once you thought Pop, you could never see America the same way again." -Andy Warhol

I do realize that not everyone finds pop culture quite as magickal as I do, and some of you may be wondering "what in the world does this have to with living a kickass life"? Well, for you- it may not, and that's okay.

This is the part of KickAss Witch that I am doing for myself, because I DO see the magick in pop culture. It inspires & invigorates me, not as a whole but for the few treasures that occasionally rise from the scrap heap.

Of course, one woman's treasure is another's trash & there really is no accounting for taste. So, feel free to ignore this post. Otherwise, for better or worse, here is what I'm digging on right now :

Lana Del Rey is a true enigma, fragile & strong, beautiful & slightly grotesque, undeniably compelling. Do you love her? Do you hate her? Can you look away?

★ Is it just me or do you find it hard to warm up to a new piece of fiction? I often do, particularly when it involves a lot of fantasy and especially coming off my new favorite book (State Of Wonder).

That's what happened to me during the first however many pages of "A Discovery Of Witches" by Deborah Harkness. I just couldn't decide if I could invest in witches AND vampires AND daemons all living in an otherwise mundane & highly academic world. But- thankfully, a shift occurred sometime around page 50, and by page 60 I was hooked.

I'm excited to have been finally seduced into this story, because it not only involves magick & books & yoga & tea(!), but it will also carry on for three full volumes. A trilogy! Yes! I've finally found a witchy series that is NOT available in the young adult section.

★ I've already shared with you my favorites from the first three weeks of last month's Spring 2013 collections (here & here), so I feel like I need to finish what I started by sharing the best of that final oh-so-chic week in Paris. Keep in mind that this is the best according to yours truly and that my taste runs more toward wearable with an edge than creatively outlandish :
