The Power Of Negative Affirmations : I Refuse To Abandon Myself!

Maybe humans are naturally dogmatic and superstitious?

Maybe these tendencies create a comforting illusion of control or a sense of order to our lives.

I often think this is true, because, no matter how empowering the philosophy, however fresh & liberating it may feel at first blush, dogma always seems to worm it's way in eventually.

Hard & fast rules start to appear as the philosophy spreads, and the community as a whole, the community that supports that ideal, be it veganism, Witchcraft, Christianity or the ascension movement- they all sort of fall in line with and start preaching increasingly strict tenets.

In the Law Of Attraction community, a good example of this is the warning to craft your intentions with care, lest you accidentally manifest something you don't want.

This means that you must ALWAYS state your affirmation in present, first person terms (I AM...) and you MUST speak in the positive.

So- you would never say, "I am not fat. I am not fat. I am not fat," if what you really want to be is lean.

It is believed that in saying that, your mind will bypass the word "not" and hear only "fat fat fat", assuming you want more fat & graciously giving you more of it.

Is this true?

Do you absolutely KNOW this to be true?

I'm not saying "I am not fat" is the world's greatest affirmation for someone who wants to lose weight. It's not. "I enjoy feeling light & lean & super fit!" is probably more effective.

I encourage the use of positive affirmations & self talk in my FREE eBook, because I am a big fan of both techniques. They work, and I like to do what works.

But- I do think we sometimes take these things too far, and that there can be POWER in the use of negative affirmations- which I discuss in the video below...

One so-called "negative affirmation" that was a favorite of mine in 2014 goes like this...

Do NOT trade what you want MOST for what you want NOW.

The first time I read that, it was probably attached to some fitness meme on Pinterest, and it electrified me to the core. I FELT it, right down to my running shoes, which were on feet & moving over pavement minutes later.

It really spoke to me... in a positive way!

It made me want to make better choices.

In fact, I loved it so much that I made my own meme of it, and kept it as the background tile on my desktop so that it would be the first thing I saw when I turned my computer on every morning.

I like to do that, create physical prompts to go with whatever affirmations I am currently working with, and one of my favorite ways to do that is with jewelry.

Wearing jewelry with a designated, spiritual purpose is an awesome way to work MAGiCK into your every day life.

It is a practical, discreet, and highly effective way to help ease yourself through a rough transition, hold a commitment (thus, the wedding ring!), or to simply remind yourself of whatever affirmation you are working with at any given time.

Another affirmation that I started working with last year is...

I Refuse To Abandon Myself.

Again- some people would say that this is a negative affirmation and that it is likely to cause more abandonment issues.

I totally disagree with that, and the proof is in the pudding! It's also on my finger...

I have repeatedly tested this affirmation, while marrying it to a special piece of jewelry that is dedicated to enhancing it's effect on me psycho-spiritually, and I can assure you- it works! It works wonders.

Every time I slip that ring, a simple triple goddess moonstone affair, onto my finger, I say, "I refuse to abandon myself," and receive an energetic charge that reinforces my intention to stand up for & honor myself as I make my way through the rest of the day.

Sometimes- when I find myself confronted with a particularly challenging situation (someone is inappropriately testing my boundaries or I am tempted to say "Yes" when I really mean "No"), I twist the ring around on my finger, and silently repeat, "I refuse to abandon myself."

And- I'm telling you- it has a magickal effect on my state of being and what I am capable of.

When I am not wearing the ring, I keep it in a place of honor, a pretty Italian ceramic box, and repeat my affirmation as I place it inside until next time... "I refuse to abandon myself."

"Know, first, who you are, and then adorn yourself accordingly." - Epictetus

I believe that the way you adorn & care for yourself, as well as your environment, will absolutely set the tone for the way the world at large responds to your presence.

I believe that the way you treat yourself sends a clear message out into the Universe about how you are willing to be treated, as well as what you will NOT tolerate.

And- I believe that marrying a piece of jewelry to a special intention is a brilliant way to take your MAGiCK with you on the go, whether your affirmation is constructed in the positive or the so-called "negative". Whatever floats your boat!

Keep it flowing... Take it with you... And do YOU...

If it works for you, it works, and that's MAGiCK enough...

Do you have any pieces of Spiritual jewelry that you like to wear?

Have you ever thought of connecting them to special affirmations or intentions and using them that way?

If so- I'd LOVE to read all about it in the comments section down below... -xo
