MY KiCKASS LiFE : Big Sur Forever!!! (Another Photo Journal)

I love Big Sur, CA in a way that I usually reserve for the people closest to me. There are sooo many reasons why: the ocean, the river, the sun, the fog, the rocks & moss, the forest & tall redwood trees... not to mention that small-town hippie community vibe.

That's why I make it my business to get up there at least once a year and always on my anniversary with The Hubs.

We just got back last week from our 11th anniversary trip & I'm still having a heckuva time getting on top of everything that piled up while away.

I'm also feeling a tad funky, as I always catch a case of melancholy when the trip is over, and it takes a while to get back into the swing of big city & internet things.

I actually got a bit teary unpacking our suitcases for the laundry. The campfire smell lingered on my blankets & clothes, and I was very reluctant to wash it out.

Thankfully my drive to not be a scum over-ruled my desire to shlep around town in dirty hiking togs, and The Universe rewarded me with one last, unexpected whif when I went to put this post together.

I can still smell campfire on my camera case! Yay! Deep breath...

A PHOTOGRAPHiC ODE TO MY HAPPY PLACE

Ancient Redwood Trees being awesome...

Billy being rugged...

Me being witchy in the forest! Livin' the dream... Livin' the dream...

In addition to celebrating 11 years with Billy, I also had to have me a divination sesh in the woods to celebrate 5 years of reading tarot. I've been a devoted student since I bought my first deck in Big Sur on our honeymoon...

There's no place like Deetjen's. It is hands down the most charming restaurant on the planet, rich in homegrown history, dripping with rustic ambiance & serving the YUMMiEST food...

Seriously. We're obsessed. This is the only place we eat at when we go to Big Sur. Everything is pretty expensive up there &, after a few years of trying out the various restaurants, we decided we are only willing to part with that kind of cash for Deetjen's...

I can not have the Cream Cheese-Stuffed French Toast. I always want the Cream Cheese-Stuffed French Toast. So- this year, I made Billy order it & snuck a tiny bite. Yes- it's as good (& bad!) as it's name suggests...

Here's us...

And the long, road home...

"Out yonder they may curse, revile, and torture one another, defile all the human instincts, make a shambles of creation (if it were in their power), but here, no, here, it is unthinkable, here there is abiding peace, the peace of God, and the serene security created by a handful of good neighbors living at one with the creature world." -Henry Miller (Big Sur and the Oranges of Hieronymus Bosch)
