MY KiCKASS LiFE : A Birthday Trip Photo Journal... Cayucos + Cambria + Big Sur, CA...

Creating "the kickass life of your dreams" is such a personal experience.

The dreams of your heart are yours to cherish and, if you so choose, to learn how to bring into reality.

(HOT TiP : Magick helps.)

Some of my dreams are huge & crazy-ambitious, like publishing a 5 book novel series and having it translated into movies...

But- for the most part- my dream life is one I am already living. It is made up of many small things, good books, good food, good tea... sweet little moments out in nature & spending time with the people I love...

PHOTO JOURNAL : A Birthday Trip With My Awesome Kid...

When Tanner & I arrived at the beach house, our family was there to kick things off with laughs & presents & cake! Here are some of the more outgoing party people in our crew...

I made the cake. It was YUMMY...

Should you ever visit Cayucos, be sure to keep your eyes peeled, because mermaids abound...

Beach-comber by day, moon-gazer by night...

Obviously I couldn't let this photo op pass...

Cayucos is lovely, but nothing will ever compare to the breathtaking beauty of Big Sur...

The local wild honey is spectacular, and I can make a jar of it last a really long time. I eat a teaspoon of it every night before bed...

Here's to the over-zealous, photo-happy moms who make you "look at the camera" when your mouth is full of food...

I may be a nature-luvin' hippie, but before that- I am a jammie-sportin', cozy up-in-bed kinda BOOK NERD. Add a wood-burning stove to the mix & I am one happy witchy...

Have you read anything by Paula Brackston?

I'm obsessed. I read The Midnight Witch earlier this year and became an instant fan.

She has written a whole bunch of witchy books, but I am trying to savor the experience of this most delightful discovery and avoid horking them all down in one crazy marathon.

So- I'm pacing myself and reading other authors in between.

The last piece of fiction I read was The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton, which was fascinating and quite magickal in it's own mysterious way.

Still- I was happy to get back to Ms. Brackston with this tale of The Winter Witch and am loving it so far...

One of the presents I bought Tanner was a chocolate bath bomb from Herbolution. I knew he'd love it, because it's very ball-like (in case you don't know- Tanner's life-long obsession is spheres, thus the golf balls he's always got in hand... literally) and bubbles are cool!

So- the kid got to take a chocolate bath on his birthday...

My favorite place to eat breakfast is unfortunately 5 hours away from where I live, but I suppose that's what makes it so exciting. (YES- I think food is exciting.)

Breakfast at Deetjen's is always wonderful & the rustic vibe is all kinds of charming.

I've eaten there many times, but I've never had the privilege of staying in one of their cabins, so that's one of the things that made this trip extra special...

The big birthday present this year was horseback riding in Big Sur!

Andrew Molera State Park is divine, and the horses there are so graceful & gentle.

Tanner had never been riding before, but he's always had a special connection to animals (& all of nature really), so I knew he'd be a natural...

This was my best attempt at a cowgirl outfit. What do you think?...
