In Case You Hate Your Job (a pep talk)...

HELLO there...

How are you doing? Life sure is interesting this year, isn't it?

I know that's an understatement, but I'm not here to dredge up bad news. I'm here to try & offset it...

You'll have to let me know if I succeed.

Okay so...

This might be a weird thing to say, but I can't tell you how many times my work has saved me from spinning out about politics, natural disasters & myriad scary situations outside my control.

yes... WORK.

I am a career-minded, ambitious witch. My personal version of "creating the kickass life of my dreams" is oriented around the creative work I do.

My work gives me a sense of purpose. And it's fun.

It's also how I keep a roof over my head, which means that it really-really-really MUST BE FUN, because (& you're welcome to judge me for this) if it isn't fun, I won't do it... not for the long haul.

That doesn't mean it's all roses & rainbows 24/7. I do struggle sometimes. I get overwhelmed, confused, impatient (mostly with pesky things like tech glitches or unexpected avalanches of email)...

But the core actions of my work (writing, podcasting, coaching) are downright joyful. I love doing these things. That's what gives me the strength to put up with the challenges.

If your work is NOT fun & you're the kind of person who needs it to be, you have three choices :

1. You can learn to endure it & establish joy elsewhere.

2. You can change your mindset in an attempt to make it fun.

3. You can change your work.

Every one of these options requires some effort.

Depending on the gap between where you're at now and where you want to be, it could also require sacrifice & a whole lotta time. Every situation is unique, because every individual is unique.

YOU are unique.

And I want you to know that YOU ARE WORTH THE EFFORT.

Your dreams matter. Your happiness matters.

Many of us spend more of our waking hours working than not, and now that *the nature of work* is undergoing such a huge global shift...

Is it fair to say that a great many of us now work from home? And that inherent in that might be new opportunity?

I'm one of those scrappy people who found a way to work from home many years ago. It was partly out of necessity. I am a single mom & the sole caretaker of a young man with special needs. Those needs ask that I be here to assist him daily. I am so grateful that my work allows me to do that, which brings me back around to fun...

If I didn't enjoy my work, it simply would not be sustainable on top of my other responsibilities. I would burn out & quit.

So...

This is just a random little pep talk & I hope (maybe?) a glimmer of hope.

If you don't love your life specifically because you hate your work...

My wish for you is that you will soon find the hope & determination to do something about that.

If you don't know where to begin, ask for spiritual guidance, brainstorm ideas with a friend, join a mastermind group, do a bit of research...

Enjoyable/fulfilling work may not be easy to find (or create), but it might be worth the effort.

You certainly are.

Until we meet again...

MUCH LOVE -xo

peace...
Joanna
